Hey - just like the lovely couple above - everybody wants to travel if only for a little bit. Our focus here is for you to get to know about travel/tourism in the world, into the regions you looked at (and then some), and to get you ready for a culminating activity involving your setting up a trip to one of the countries in your respective regions.

For a general idea of the nature of tourism, how it is defined, terms associated with it, and lists of information about nations and cities visited see:
Tourism
This is primarily a self-study unit taken from an incredibly well thought out and executed website from the U.K. For this you are to begin by going to the website associated with tourism called Leisure Activities and Tourism
DO NOT USE THE WEBSITE'S QUESTIONS. PLEASE USE THE MODIFIED ONES HERE:

Culminating Assignment: Take a Trip to a Country in Your Region

Let's be honest. The best teacher about geography is travel, but few of us will ever get a chance to visit every single place on the planet that we would like to see and experience. Well, here is your chance to at least execute a trip to some country within the region you studied. There are certain parameters on this though:
  • You are only going to be given US $4,000. With that you must:
    • Buy transportation (air tickets, rail passes, bus tickets etc)
    • All kinds of accommodation for which you will have to pay. Home stays can only be used for a maximum of four nights. Sleeping on the beach, train station, airport, city park is not permitted.
    • A purchase of some sort of souvenir is required. That souvenir must be unique to the region or country in which you visited. Explain that significance in detail and with references.
  • The trip has to last at least two weeks (14 days or more in that country). Bonus mark for every two days you can stretch you money so as to stay longer.
  • It must originate in Korea (Incheon Airport?).
  • You must visit at least two places of human geographical significance which cannot be in the same locale. Explain that significance in detail and with references.
  • You must visit two places of physical geographical significance that cannot be in the same locale. Explain that significance in detail and with references.
  • You must meet your friend from the Regional assignment. Can they join you? If not, find out why. You don't have to go to their nation necessarily, but you might want to check it out. (Okay, here's where a lot of you messed up. Fix it).
  • A map of your journey within the country you visit showing your route(s) of travel is required.
  • A detailed itinerary showing everything that you will do, eat, sleep etc.
  • An explanation of what time of year you will be visiting and why this is the best time to visit. Detail in your explanation why any other time of year is not as good.
  • New requirement: A short phrase list that a tourist might need to navigate the language (where needed). This must contain key expressions.
  • Due date: November 23, 2009.
